Bench
Press
The mighty bench press. This is a lift that most
guys would be familiar with. It is a great upper body builder and hits the chest,
triceps and shoulders. The back muscles are also worked during this exercise especially
the lats as they play more of a stabilization role. Get great at this exercise
and you will be looking forward to every chance you get to take your shirt off.
Squats
This exercise is regarded by many for being the king
of all lower body exercises. It hits the quads, hamstrings, glutes and calf
muscles. It also helps develop a strong core though the use abdominal and lower
back muscles for stabilization. Just try not to overdo this exercise if you
have any plans on fitting into your designer skinny jeans, but at least you would
look great in a pair of leggings.
Standing
Military press
This exercise has to be considered to be the long
lost brother of the bench press. It is not as popular, but it definitely has
some awesome benefits. It hits the shoulders, triceps, and upper back muscles. It
also is great for developing of a sexy trim core, because the abdominal muscle
have to work extra hard to maintain correct posture and form when doing these.
Deadlifts
If squats are the king of lower body lifts then
deadlift must be the grand master of a full body lift. When doing these you
will feel almost every muscle in your body working, from your quads,
hamstrings, calves, glutes, core, lower back, lats, upper back, traps and
forearms. This lift can be rather taxing which is why it is not commonly seen
being performed in gyms, but it is well worth it and the payoff is a strong symetrical physique.
Pull-ups
There is a reason why the military puts great
emphasis on pull-ups. What is a better test of strength than being able to move
your own body weight through space? This exercise hits all muscles in the back
and will help guys get those guns, biceps, they've always wanted. Also
according to EMG tests pull-ups are one of the most effective exercises for targeting
the abdominal muscles, even more then the ever so popular crunch or situp.
Extra points if you can do them with extra weight hanging from your waist via a weight belt
Calf
raises
What better way to round off a perfect physique than
sporting a pair of sexy athletic calves. Although calves get worked through
squats and deadlifts, some people need to put extra emphasis on them to grow.
They are known to be notoriously stubborn to grow but only because they are
trained improperly most of the time. When calf raises are performed slow and steady, with a one second pause at the top and bottom of each rep, your calves will be able to reach
their full potential, you would also no longer suffer from the infamous “Chicken Leg
Syndrome”
